Rise of Fall of the Leno Empire

Jay Leno returns to NBC, but now in "prime time." The justification for this has always been financial - Jay Leno's show costs less to produce than the 1-hour dramas that previously filled his new time slot. On paper this all sounds good, but from a biological point of view, this is an unstable strategy.
The celebrity talk show is a parasite that feeds the insatiable hunger of the public with the celebrity of actors, musicians, politicians, etc. As talk shows and "reality tv" replace scripted television, there will be fewer and fewer actors that the public desires to see. If there are too many talk shows and not enough celebrities to draw viewers, the public will stop watching. Once the ratings are gone, so too will be the surplus of talk shows and reality shows that feature celebrities.
Mark my words - If the current trend of replacing scripted television with reality tv and talk shows continues, Jay Leno will be off the air in two years.
